Canadian Wine Tasting

Trade Event
Date: 16/05/2024 - 16/05/2024 Time: 12:00 - 16:00

Canada produces less than 1% of the world’s wine, yet despite relatively small production levels Canadian wine is making a name for itself in key international markets.  Wine has been produced commercially in Canada since the mid-19th century and the key wine producing provinces include British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.

Diamond Estates Wine & Spirits founded almost a quarter of a century ago, are one of the largest exporters of wine from in the Niagara Region.  Located in the “Golden Mile” of Niagara-on-the-Lake, in Ontario; the company operates four wineries, three in Ontario and one in British Columbia, just outside Vancouver.

Ontario is the larger of Canada’s two main wine regions and has a total of 7,000 ha of vineyards planted compared to the smaller British Columbia region with plantings of 4,150 ha.  Wineries are located through the south of Ontario and most of the vineyards are in the Niagara Peninsula about 10km from Canada’s border with the United States.

Ontario’s wine regions share the same latitude as Tuscany and Oregon (42 N to 56 N).  In Ontario, the continental climate is moderated by the region’s proximity to Lake Ontario, Lake Erie and the Niagara River.  The lakes play a major role in moderating the continental climate to create the perfect cool climate conditions to successfully grow grapes.  Ontario is also one of the few wine regions in the world with a limestone soil base, like the soil structure found in both Burgundy and Champagne.

The Diamond Estates portfolio includes award winning wine and cider brands such as Lakeview Cellars, Creekside Wines, Twenty Bees, EastDell Estates, Fresh Wines, Shiny Apple Cider, and Mindful.   Their recent International Awards include Decanter & IWSC Silver Awards, awarded in 2023 for their Vidal Icewine.

Diamond Estates will be holding an Open Pour tasting to highlight a selection of wines from their portfolio on Thursday 16th May, 2024 at the offices of the Embassy of Canada to Ireland, 3rd Floor, 7-8 Wilton Terrace, Dublin D02 KC57.  The tasting is strictly trade and press only and will run from 12:00 noon to 16:00

Diamond Estates are seeking representation in the Irish market and their Director of Export Sales Peter Toms will be available for B2B meetings.
