Planning on an at-home celebration? Or have you
selected a venue that requires you to arrange your own wines? Or perhaps your
venue’s wine list leaves you cold? No problem. The team at Whelehan wines have
worked on a wide range of weddings from those with the tightest of budgets to
more open-ended events. They know how to
make this part of a wedding preparation exciting and stress-free.
David Whelehan and his team at Whelehan Wines can offer some great advice including:
· Agree corkage charge with venue. Corkage is not a charge for simply pulling the cork out of the bottle and pouring the wine. Rather it is a supplement that is priced to reflect the style of the venue. The rate can vary from €5 to €25 per bottle and up to €30 per bottle of sparkling wine.
· Set a budget range: €12-15 per bottle, €15–30 and so on.. they recommend lower alcohol wines given the lengthy duration of the festivities. But, most importantly, arrange a tasting with them so they can help you find the wine that you feel is right for you.
·
How much wine should you buy?
The typical consumption rule of thumb is maximum half a bottle a head split 50%
between red and 50% white.
