MW presents How is Climate Changing Wine?
South Africa’s treasure-trove of wine making possibilities comes
from a varied terroir, influenced by mountains, oceans, wind, diurnal
temperature variation, rainfall and sunshine hours. For wine farmers even small
changes in climate can have enormous implications for successful grape growing.
South Africa’s climatic challenges have been well documented in recent years,
most significantly the three-year drought that resulted in lost vineyards. How
is the industry adapting to climate change, what challenges lie ahead and what
tools are being used to face them?
