Irish Master of Wine, Fergal Tynan M.W.  set up Thistledown Wines, in 2010 in Australia with his colleague Gyles Cook MW.  Fergal, who now lives in Scotland, started his wine career working in SuperValu in Raheny, and studied the WSET Diploma.  He subsequently moved to Scotland and today is the Manging Director of one of the UK’s top wine importing companies Alliance Wines.

Fergal has been making wine all over the global wine world including in Australia, Southern France and Spain for some years now and in 2022 his Thistledown Grenache was voted to be  Australia’s best Grenache by the  Halliday Wine Companion for his 2019 Sands of Time Old Vine, Single Vineyard, Blewitt Springs Grenache which was awarded five stars by the Halliday guide and was described by the tasting panel “among the finest reds in Australia”.
