Italian wines are very much in demand on the Irish market and the region of Piedmonte is leading the charge. The promotional consortium I Vini del Piemonte will return to Dublin for the third edition of Barolo & Friends: a tasting initiative aimed at promoting Piedmont producers from their 59 wine regions who have more DOCGs (19) than any other region and is tied with Tuscany for most DOCs (41). There are a total of 59 regions In Piedmont, including some of the better known, including Asti DOCG, Barbara d’Alba DOC, Barbaresco DOCG,  Barolo DOCG, Gabiano DOC, Gattinara DOC,  Gavi/Cortese di Gavi DOC, Langhe DOC, Monferrato DOC, Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC, and Roero DOCG.

The Masterclass will be presented by Elena Barattini WSET Dip who will introduce Piedmonte’s native appellations and highlight those that are still to be discovered. With a background in communication and events, Elena moved from Italy to London in 2011, driven by a growing passion for wine and the desire to build a new life and career.

Progressing through roles in retail, hospitality, and distribution, she developed a broad foundation across the wine industry. While studying for the WSET Diploma, she discovered that education was her true calling. Since then, she has focused on helping others deepen their wine knowledge through clear, structured, and engaging teaching.

Today, Elena works as a freelance wine consultant and educator. She teaches WSET qualifications at all levels, both in person and online, and is also an instructor for the Italian Wine Scholar Guild. As an Italian Wine Ambassador and Langhe Ambassador, she enjoys sharing the diversity and cultural richness of Italy’s wine regions, inspiring students and professionals alike.
